The AWD goes great in any weather condition, that's why I got it. And it gets great mpg at around 33mpg. Smooth riding car and can switch to paddle shifters any time and really comes in handy driving in the snow, can control what gear its in so I can slow the vehicle down by downshifting instead of hitting the brakes and risk sliding. Overall I don't think you can beat this car for the price, especially if it lasts a long as older subarus do.
I have owned 4 of them, and will never own anything else again. With a Subaru I always know that I am able to get to work no matter the weather and if it is dark or foggy outside I know that I will be able to see (the lights are awsome). Sometimes I like to drive around in the mud, just because I know that I will not get stuck.
Who'd though driving a wagon would be so fun ! ? !
Picked up an '05 WRX Sportwagon with 33K for a pretty good deal. Drives very civilized under 4000 RPM's, but hit the throttle beyond that and you will have a wide grin on your face all the way up to about 7000 RPM's. Suspension is very tight but forgiving thanks to the 16" wheel/tire combo. I'd imagine '06 and up with 17" wheels is a little more firm due to low pro tires.
My only advice is if you're looking for a WRX, stick with lower mileage ones if possible. I test drove quite a few and some were alot more rough than others with similiar mileage. Owners usually drive these cars hard as that is what they are meant to do. Don't take an owners word for it that its been "babied" because chances are its had more than a few spirited outings. I ended up going to a local Subaru dealer and finding one with a facrtory warranty still remaining because I didn't want to have any "surprises".
