The performance on this car is no different than driving the newest model of Matrix. Both the interior and exterior appear as if the car has just been issued from the factory.
I bought the Matrix last week to be the primary car for my wife and three year-old daughter. We've already had a good chance to break it in on a seven hour road trip for a family reunion, as well as testing out the typical daily commute. We consistently achieved 30mpg on the highway with the A/C blowing and cruise control set on 74mph. The car handles well in traffic and on open road. The ride is fairly smooth, although uneven sections of road seem to be particularly annoying in this car. Bumps are noticeable, but not so much that they're unpleasant. Cargo space and even legroom seem to be sufficient for all of our needs. Storage space in the console is limited, but a huge glove compartment compensates for that. Cup holders are limited (2 in the back and only "bottle holders" in the front) but who buys a car for cup holders? I have to admit that the driver's seat did get a bit uncomfortable after hours on the road, but for normal daily operation it should be fine. I feel secure with my family in this car day in and day out. The Toyota quality and the safety specifications are reassuring. It's also pretty sporty looking in a "sundance orange" color. My wife is thrilled with the car and hopefully will be expressing her gratitude for a long time to come.
I love this car!! An excellent value for the money. It has lots of pep, handles great, is really fun to drive, and gets excellent gas mileage. The head room is ample, as is the leg room in the back seat, and there's an amazing amount of storage space. I had a chance to test the capacity when driving 3 friends and luggage home from LAX. There was plenty of room for everyone, and their pile of luggage slid neatly into the back. I've had nothing but Toyotas since the 1970s (3 cars in all, and I drove the last one 300K mi). I am expecting my Matrix to continue the tradition.
