More amenities and luxury inside for 2021 Audi SQ7
Enhancing an already generous package of amenities, Audi added even more leather and a standard heated steering wheel for the 2021 SQ7. The rest of the SQ7 maintains the look and feel of the second generation that debuted in 2017, which is a good thing because it doesn’t make sense to tinker much with an SUV as solidly established as this one.
Powered by a turbocharged 500-horsepower 4.0-liter V8, the 2021 SQ7 offers outstanding performance that comes with the benefit of 7,700 pounds of estimated towing capability when properly equipped. Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. All-wheel drive is standard for both trims, and an adaptive sport suspension ensures the ride is as smooth as it is robust.
Audi doesn’t sleep on the interior details, either, integrating a high-tech touchscreen as the centerpiece of a clean, modern dashboard. Leather is standard fare, along with comfortable, highly adjustable seats. This SUV is the whole package, an excellent choice in the segment.

What We Like:
Performance: The 5.0-liter V8 powering the 2021 SQ7 is the major differentiator between Audi’s regular Q7 and the performance-tuned variant. With 568 lb-ft of torque and an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels, the SQ7 has plenty of oomph to make everything from daily errands to passing on the highway positively pleasant. Maybe even thrilling.
Technology: Audi’s SQ7 interface is touchscreen heavy with an eye to the futuristic. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay® seamlessly and easily, and the included voice controls activate a number of features. As for driver-assist technology, a 360-degree camera is part of the amenity set in the base Premium Plus, and it’s quite helpful, offering a top-down view of the SQ7 and its surroundings.
Comfort: With a superb adaptive air suspension to smooth out the bumps, the SQ7’s ride is stellar. Front-row passengers will enjoy heated supple leather seats, with massage functions as an add-on option. Passengers in the second row may be treated to heated seats as well with an upgrade to the Prestige trim.
What Needs Improvement
Third-row room: While we love the generous interior space for front- and second-row occupants, the same can’t be said of the third row. It’s cramped, and the limited space means it’s best for kids. To be fair, Audi isn’t alone in offering less-than-generous third-row space, and the company seems to lean into it by providing two sets of child seat anchors in the third row, unusual for the class.
