Second generation Toyota GR86
After skipping the 2021 model year, the second generation of this fun-to-drive sports car arrived with a slightly different name—GR86 instead of 86. But it got more than just a new badge—the second-generation GR86 received an upgrade in power with a larger 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine. True to its sports car characteristics, the GR86 had the option of a six-speed manual gearbox in addition to the automatic transmission. With the added power, the sporty Toyota could reach 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, almost a full second quicker than the previous generation.
While the GR86 has the same basic shape and proportions as its predecessor, the front end was restyled for a more aggressive stance, as well as improving aerodynamics. The GR86 has a purposeful cockpit that matches its exterior styling, and upgraded front seats are designed to provide effective lateral support during enthusiastic driving. A three-mode digital driver’s display and an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen display added a high-tech vibe to the cabin. Several limited special editions have been offered throughout this generation’s run, the most recent being the Yuzu Edition.
