Seventh generation Toyota Land Cruiser
After a three-year hiatus, the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser returned to the American market with fresh looks and strong off-road capability.
The Land Cruiser entered its seventh generation with a completely new design, giving this legendary off-roader a modern style with retro cues to set it apart from the previous generation. Two distinct trim levels are available, including the more affordable "1958" model named for the year the original Land Cruiser debuted.
The new generation Land Cruiser gets a significant change under the hood. The big V8 is gone in favor of a more fuel-efficient turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain offering 326 horsepower. The total output is lower than that of the V8, and the towing capacity drops to 6,000 pounds, when properly equipped. Four-wheel drive is standard on both trims, with a center-locking differential, electronic locking rear differential and a two-speed transfer case providing low range.
It may have retro styling, but the current generation Land Cruiser has the latest advanced driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assistance, lane centering, and full-speed adaptive cruise control.

Sixth generation Toyota Land Cruiser
Toyota improved the sixth-generation Land Cruiser with new styling, an upgraded interior, and increased capability from a more powerful V8.
The sixth-generation Land Cruiser represented a significant upgrade over the previous version, not only in capability but also in technology and luxury appointments. Longer and wider than its predecessor, the Land Cruiser continued with a body-on-frame design that was considerably stiffer for improved drivability and capability. Inside, the Land Cruiser went noticeably upscale with standard leather trim, four-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a 14-speaker JBL audio system.
With the new generation, the Land Cruiser received a larger, more efficient V8 engine putting out 381 horsepower—an increase of more than 100 hp over the outgoing version. Not only was the Land Cruiser quicker, but towing capacity increased to 8,500 pounds when properly equipped
.Off-road prowess continued with this generation thanks to the standard four-wheel drive and two-speed transfer case, as well as Crawl Control, which acted like a low-speed off-road cruise control. The new Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) automatically adjusted anti-roll bar tuning for improved ride quality and less body roll.
