The Audi S5 is an absolute joy to drive. Plenty of power - put the car in Dynamic and the transmission in Sport mode, press the gas, feel the car squat and take off like a rocket. Quattro AWD system provides amazing stability and handling, even in lousy weather. I spent months researching what to buy. Considered the BMW X5, BMW 4XM series, Acura TLX, Audi A6 3.0, etc. The minute I drove the S5, I was knew it was the car I'd been looking for. I still giggle every time the engine roars to life when I start it. I haven't tracked it (I probably won't) so this "understeer" business you hear about Audi is probably there, but it's worth writing off. Drive it like a slightly irresponsible adult with plenty of common sense and you have power and handling for every situation you're likely to encounter. Comfortable enough to drive half-way across the country and fun enough to take the scenic route to your destination. I highly recommend pulling the trigger if you're thinking about buying one. I LOVE this car.
OMG - enjoy every minute of every drive.
Red calipers look cool, but braking performance is legit. Great stopping power WITH control.
If you can find one, go for a sportback. The cargo space is incredible for a car this size.
Long road trips on poorly maintained roads can be a pain. The sport suspension and performance tires transfer just about every road imperfection right to your head.
To put it simply...I'm scared. But you have to know what you're getting into. This is not a Honda Accord. I couldn't even buy the right oil without going to the dealership.
This is a bit a nit pick. In truth, there's plenty of power, and the turbocharger makes it available at 1500 RPM. BUT - there is a bit of turbo lag as you're waiting for the twin-scroll to spin up. Only an issue when I have to get overly aggressive with the accelerator to get out of a potentially hairy situation on the freeway. Have considered a chip, but haven't gone that route after nearly a year.
It would be a fantastic car if the dealer actually followed their inspection checklist
they did not service this car WAUC4CF54JA125727. It had metal shavings in oil, a dented hood that had improper repair, rear main seal leak and oil cooler leak. possibly a bad wheel bearing. I returned it.
