This is quite a good midsize sedan for everyday driving. The suspension is taut but comfortable. It doesn't wobble over potholes or anything, settles nicely, and feels very neutral. The interior is nothing fancy, not particularly attractive, with sort of hard, brittle-feeling plastic along most surfaces. I can't really get too excited about the red-colored display lighting or the seat fabric patterns. The engine is quite powerful for a 4-cylinder. It accelerates very nicely with no drama. The five-speed automatic is pretty good, but for someone who loves and is accustomed to namual transmissions, it's a little dull. There's the usual hesitation before downshifting when I lean hard into the throttle and it's a little unpredictable. I've started getting comfortable using the "manu-matic" up-down shifter, which makes the situation a lot better. Gas mileage is decent: not great, not bad at all. Overall, if you're not a performance nut and are looking for a decent and fairly fun car to drive around in, this is a really good value.
This is our first Mazda and I'd say I am very impressed so far. It's in the same class as our 2014 Kia Optima SX-T, and they share a lot of similarities - very smooth ride, attractive interior and body lines, great fuel mileage (the Mazda6 gets better mileage than the Kia), and plenty of passing power out of a 4 cylinder, though the Mazda6 is naturally aspirated and the Optima is turbocharged. I can't say which I enjoy driving more, both are a lot of fun and seem to be well put together.
An auto detailer's dream! Some of the interior design features make this car easier to clean than our 2010 Mazda 6. I love the 4 cylinder engine, the beautiful Soul Red color and the sun roof - it is so fun to drive. Plus knowing that I am driving a safe vehicle gives me peace of mind when our family goes for rides.
