Generation Overview

Growing from the third-generation M-Class, the first generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLE350 began development over a five-year period starting in 2006. Working from the M-Class' SUV roots, the new series took its cues from the growing popularity of crossover vehicles while taking styling cues from the E-Class. The new GLE featured more back seat leg room and adjustable rear seatbacks. Other new features included a new seven-speed automatic transmission, available adaptive cruise control, active curve system and driver assistance features. It began production in July 2011 with the 2012 model year. A facelifted model was offered in 2015 with a five-door coupe body style.
