2023 GMC Yukon XL 1500 review

1. That XL 

Those two little letters on the end of the Yukon mean there is an additional 15.2 inches in exterior length, but also critically there is an additional 13 inches in additional wheelbase length. That wheelbase stretch opens up additional space inside, and adds to the already plush ride. Third-row passengers will notice the increase to 36.7 inches of legroom, and you’ll notice the 20% increase in maximum cargo capability, to an impressive 144.7 cu-ft. If you regularly haul outsized cargo or fill up with passengers, the XL is the Yukon for you.  

2. Strong engine choices 

Like the standard-length Yukon, the 2023 GMC Yukon XL has a range of engine options that are well-suited to hauling. The base engine is the 355-hp 5.3L V8. An optional gas engine is the 401-hp 6.2L V8. If diesel is your preference, you can get it here in the 3.0L turbodiesel inline-six. All are matched to a 10-speed automatic, driving either the rear wheels or all four.  

3. XL towing ability 

When all that interior space still isn’t enough room for your work cargo, you need to tow. The 2023 GMC Yukon XL has a maximum estimated towing capacity of 8,300 lbs when properly equipped.

That tow rating is for the 5.3L engine with 2WD and the optional Max Trailering Package. Keep in mind, the XL body style does slightly lower the maximum estimated towing capacity versus the standard-length Yukon. 

4. Filled with technology

5. Curb appeal
