First generation Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue debuted for 2020 as a new entry-level crossover sharing much of its chassis and many mechanical components with the Kia Seltos. Its low price is matched by low power, but this subcompact appeals for its high value and useful interior space given its size.
The powertrain is disappointing. It consists of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and a continuously variable automatic transmission. With a mere 121 horsepower, the Venue has one of the lowest hp figures on the market. The manual transmission available at launch was discontinued for 2021. Power goes exclusively to the front wheels, and fuel economy is pretty good at 31 mpg combined (29 city/33 highway), according to the EPA.
Inside, the Venue has room for five occupants, though the rear seat is better for two than three. Cargo space is small for a crossover but still useful at 18.7 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 31.9 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down. Buyers also get an eight-inch touchscreen with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams.
