The 2020 Hyundai Venue is a new front-wheel-drive subcompact crossover SUV
The Venue debuted as an all-new model for Hyundai in 2020, one of seven crossover SUVs the brand offers. Slotted below the already small Kona, the Venue is the smallest crossover in the Hyundai lineup. While small, the Venue is surprisingly roomy with reasonable space for passengers and cargo. The Venue is well equipped with a wide range of premium features like Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, as well as the latest advanced driver-assist features. The 2020 Hyundai Venue is available in three trim levels: SE, SEL, and Denim. All versions are powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine putting out 121 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque, sending power to the front wheels. In an unusual move, Hyundai offers the Venue with a manual transmission as well as a continuously variable transmission, but all-wheel drive is not available. With its roomy interior and a long list of standard features, the Venue competes well against vehicles like the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ford EcoSport, and Toyota C-HR.

What We Like
Interior: It may look small, but the Venue features a surprisingly roomy and comfortable cabin. The front seats offer nice cushioning with good support, and while the rear seat is a little tight, it is certainly usable for two adults. The large display screen is bright and easy to read, and the controls, buttons, and knobs are well laid out with an intuitive design.
Technology: Even as an entry-level model, the Venue comes well equipped with a standard 8-inch infotainment display with navigation as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. All trim levels of the Venue get advanced driver-assist features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assistance, and driver attention warning. Unfortunately, adaptive cruise control is not offered on the 2020 Venue.
Storage: The Venue may be small, but it makes good use of the available space to provide a good level of utility. The cargo space has a wide opening for easy loading, and it can hold almost 19 cubic feet of gear, or 32 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. There’s also an adjustable load floor as well as a stowable cargo cover.
What Needs Improvement
Performance: With only 121 horsepower on tap, the Venue will certainly not win any races. It’s not terribly quick getting to 60 mph—in Edmunds' testing, it took 9.4 seconds to do this—but handling is reasonable, so the Venue is enjoyable to drive.
