2024 Infiniti Q50 review

by Edmunds Editors

The Infiniti Q50 is a premium compact sport sedan with a fastback roofline. It was designed for personal luxury and featured a V6 engine, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and available all-wheel drive, giving the Q50 sporty performance and capable handling at an affordable price. Produced for a single 10-year generation, the Q50 provided an attractive entry point to the Infiniti lineup. It benefited from incremental improvements, like upgraded drivetrain performance and driver-assist technology, throughout production. Newer models will carry more of the modern features buyers expect, such as smartphone integration and adaptive cruise control.

First generation Infiniti Q50

The Infiniti Q50 was introduced for the 2014 model year with a 3.7-liter V6 engine and automatic transmission driving the rear wheels, with all-wheel drive as an available option. There were three primary trim levels: Base, Premium, and Sport trim. Additionally, a Q50 hybrid was offered. Even at its launch, the Q50 carried the latest technology such as LED headlights, keyless ignition, and twin touchscreen displays. The Premium and Sport trims included luxury features like heated front seats and a 14-speaker Bose® audio system. The top Sport trim included a sport-tuned suspension, leather upholstery, a distinct driver’s seat, and paddle shifters.

For the 2016 model year, Infiniti changed over to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the base engine and a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine and a new seven-speed automatic for top trims. The 3.0-liter engine was available in two forms, producing 300 horsepower in the standard engine and 400 horsepower in the Red Sport version.
