2014 Scion XD review

1. Spacious cabin 

If you’re going to be frequently traveling with friends and family, you’ll appreciate the 2014 xD’s generous cabin and passenger capacity. There’s seating for five inside, and with 40.3 inches of front seat legroom and 33.9 inches of rear seat legroom, all occupants will have room to stretch out and get comfortable even on long journeys. The back seats even recline and slide, and can be adjusted for ideal comfort.  

2. Compact and spritely engine 

To add a bit of excitement to your daily journeys, the 2014 xD has a small but relatively potent engine under the hood. It’s a 1.8L four-cylinder, producing 128 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque, and can be paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. With a zero to 60 mph time of just 8.4 seconds, this is an ideal power plant for zipping in and out of bustling traffic in the city.  

3. No trims means plenty of standard features 

A common feature of Scion models is to do away with traditional trim levels and offer a straightforward, well-equipped base trim with a selection of options to look out for. The 2014 xD is no exception, providing standard features including cruise control, air conditioning, and a tilting steering wheel with audio controls. Optional kit that can also be had on any 2014 xD model includes a rear spoiler, a navigation system, and a cargo cover.  

4. Good in-car entertainment options 

The main highlight of that impressive feature list is the wealth of in-car entertainment, either as standard or as an option. 2014 xD models all start with a six-speaker Pioneer^® sound system, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display and USB/iPod^® connectivity, as well as Bluetooth^®. If you really want to get the party started, look for models with the available BeSpoke^® sound system with smartphone integration.  

5. Available TRD performance parts 

To complement the punchy engine and add some extra thrills to every journey, the 2014 xD has a full suite of TRD^® performance parts available on all models. For sharper response when accelerating away from the lights, a high-performance air filter, oil filter, and sports muffler are all available. To make the handling a bit more exciting, look for the available lowered springs, performance shocks, and sway bars.
