The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is an all-new and capable SUV

The Subaru Crosstrek was redesigned for 2024, though you may notice many similarities between it and the 2023 Crosstrek. The styling remains strikingly similar both inside and out, and there are no major changes to engine availability. This Crosstrek also keeps its standard all-wheel drive and better-than-average ground clearance, making it a surprisingly capable little SUV.

The most significant change for the 2024 Crosstrek is its tech. It's still not exactly cutting-edge, but on all but the base trim you now get an 11-inch touchscreen that's easy to understand. The infotainment system doesn't run particularly quickly, and it's frustrating that so many features are buried inside the screen. But the buttons and knobs that do exist are large and easy to familiarize yourself with.

This is a small SUV that is very much at home in national parks and campsites. Its acceleration remains below average, even among slowpoke competitors, so keep that in mind if you won't be taking advantage of the Crosstrek's outdoors-focused strengths.

What is new for the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek?

  • The Base, Limited, and Sport trims have been discontinued for 2024.
  • The Premium trim now comes with Smart Key, Lane Departure Warning, Automated Cruise Control, and Automatic Transmission as standard equipment.

What We Like 

  • Great off the beaten path: The Subaru Crosstrek's standard all-wheel drive is just part of the reason it's so comfortable when taking you on your next camping trip. Its high ground clearance and tech features like Subaru's X-Mode® make it a willing companion when the weather or terrain gets rough. 

  • Good fuel economy: The EPA estimates the Crosstrek will get a combined 29 miles per gallon

    , which is about average among small SUVs. In real-world testing, Edmunds beat that handily, getting 33 miles per gallon. That's impressive for an SUV of its size.  

  • Comfortable interior: There's nothing fancy about the interior of the Crosstrek, but it's a comfortable space with plenty of headroom, legroom, and elbow room for all passengers.   

What Needs Improvement 

  • Acceleration: This is a slow vehicle with the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It took nearly 10 seconds to reach 60 mph in Edmunds' testing, which is more than a second slower than a Honda CR-V. Passing can be challenging in the Crosstrek unless you've upgraded to the 2.5-liter engine.
