The Toyota bZ4X is an all-electric crossover SUV introduced as part of Toyota’s “Below Zero” emissions vehicles. In practical terms, the bZ4X is a compact crossover SUV with seating for up to five passengers in two rows. EPA-estimated driving range on a full charge is 236 miles to 252 miles for front-wheel-drive models and 222 miles to 228 miles for dual-motor all-wheel-drive models. Notable features available with the bZ4X include a rooftop solar panel capable of generating enough power to drive the bZ4X up to 1,100 miles per year.

First generation Toyota bZ4X

The bZ4X provides an all-electric driving experience in a compact two-row crossover SUV. The bZ4X is not known for its performance but rather for efficiency, offering over 250 miles of EPA-estimated range on a charge in its lightest front-wheel-drive configuration

. Trim and wheel selections have an effect on range, so be sure to carefully choose those options.

As a modern electric vehicle, technology is important for the bZ4X. The infotainment/navigation system is powered by Google and updated using an onboard data connection. Voice control is also included on all trim levels. Cargo capacity is impressive for its size, with 27.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, plenty for a trip to the soccer field or the home supply store.

The bZ4X was introduced for the 2023 model year and continued mostly unchanged through 2025. However, the 2026 model year includes many updates as part of a major refresh, including a name change to just bZ.
