Volvo V60 Cross Country

Volvo introduced the second generation of the V60 wagon in 2019, but it was one year later that the company added the rugged Cross Country. The second-generation wagon arrived with a much sleeker look, featuring a long roof and a front end with styling cues similar to the rest of the Volvo lineup. Initially, the Cross Country was part of the full V60 lineup (covered separately), but in 2022, it became the only V60 trim. When it first arrived, the V60 Cross Country featured a nine-inch touchscreen display running Volvo's Sensus infotainment system, but in 2023, it adopted a new and easier-to-use Google-based system.

When the 2020 V60 Cross Country arrived, it was powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine teamed with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. In 2023, Volvo switched to a mild hybrid powertrain, which delivered similar power while improving fuel economy. Sadly, the 2026 model year will be the last for the V60 Cross Country.

When the new V60 Cross Country arrived in 2015, it joined the rather small group of wagons still available in the United States. With its more rugged style and raised ground clearance, the Cross Country represented a new style of SUV alternative, already embraced by the Audi Allroad and Subaru Outback. But the Volvo stood out from these others with its distinct style and sleek roofline, and the Swede was considerably more upscale than the Subaru. The Cross Country came with comfortable seating for five, although taller rear-seat passengers might find legroom limited, and the seats were trimmed in stylish synthetic leather upholstery. 

Powering the V60 Cross Country was a 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. In 2017, the five-cylinder was discontinued, replaced by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic. It delivered slightly less power but improved fuel efficiency.
