2003 BMW 530

Nice car with very good solid body integrity. Feels like a rock. Sports and Premium packages make all the difference in the way it looks and feels. It has that classic style and conveys respect. Highway driving is the best thing about this car. It also has respectable gas mileage. Mine gets 22 mpg in the mixed driving. I will recommend this car to those who is looking for this particular model. It is the last BMW-like looking 5 series. They completely screwed the next year model design. This model gave BMW the Ultimate Driving Machine title that the next year model lost. Sadly...

BMW 530i has unique personality

The '06 530i in my opinion has the best balance of performance and economy in the 5 series. Solid, quiet car. The regular suspension is sufficiently athletic; beware the harsh ride of the sport package suspension [distinguished by black trim over the windows, 7 spoke wheels, front seats with wrap-around bolsters] and the obstacle to entry/exit the wrap around seat bolster may present short people. This is one case where less is more. Basic music/HVAC functions have dash buttons; more advanced functions and settings are accessed via i-Drive electronics. Not hard to master but ccassional drivers will need a refresher. i-Drive may intimidate some drivers. Trunk is hugh. Rear seat is roomy. Driver's cup holder is a joke. Fit and finish is impressive. There was a mid-model year change: The traditional key start was replaced by a bulky electronic smart key and push start/stop button on the dash, this continues to present models. Less ergonomic because it requires two distinct movements in place of inserting and rotating key. BMW is high in driving satisfaction.

so this is why bmw drivers are so cultish!

We recently purchased a 2007 530xit (i.e. all-wheel drive wagon) that had 29,000 miles on it. Now I "get" the BMW hype - the car is comfortable, plush and drives like a dream. Yes, the multimedia controls are cumbersome (looks to have been improved on newer models), but we figured them out in no time. Ride is smooth, power is good, and the bells and whistles all ring and chirp. I thought I was in love with my Volvo S80 V8, but I'm counting down the days when I join my wife in the club of 5-series drivers!!!!
