Generation Overview

Chevrolet unveiled the ninth-generation Malibu in mid-2015 with production models hitting dealerships in late 2015 as 2016 models. The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu saw vast improvements over the previous generation, with completely revamped exterior design that feels fresh yet evolutionary. The interior also benefited from the new-for-2016 design, featuring improved materials and a more upscale look and feel.

Improvement for the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu also continue under the hood. The ninth-generation Malibu benefits from a pair of turbocharged engines on its main trims. The standard 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder in the L, LS and 1LT trim puts out 163 hp, while a larger 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder delivers 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0L turbo mill is available with the 2LT and Premier trims and is backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

There’s also a Hybrid trim that makes good use of the marque’s hybrid drivetrain technology, resulting in a sedan that gets an EPA-estimated 46 mpg combined and an EPA-estimated highway range of 595 miles with a full tank of gas.1

Chevy Malibu 2016

Carmax left residue from the paint job they tried to fix twice and then left it all over the car after i took it off to get it removed in the first place. Doesn't come with a spare tire. Was actually stranded last Saturday with my 2 year old son because of it.

Nice car but has its problems

Not even three months after getting the car I could not accelerate and it went into reduce engine power mode. Luckily CarMax was able to repair whatever was wrong. After doing research this is a common problem in this model of car. Had I known this prior to purchasing I may have went in a different direction.

2016 Malibu LTZ 21K MILES

The engine shut down to save gas is the worst. There is no button to disable this. When you come to a complete stop it shuts down until you ease of the brake. The car is awesome otherwise.

  • Ride and Handling: It's fun to drive
  • Styling:
  • Seat Comfort: I'm tall yet my arms aren't hyper extended and my knee doesn't hit the steering wheel.

  • Technology and Entertainment: Difficult to use but I like the large screen.
  • Fuel Economy: You can't disable the engine shut down.
  • Visibility: There is a large blind spot on the passenger side
