Generation Overview

The 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid is part of this hybrid model's second generation of production (2013-2020). Compared to its first generation (2010-2011), the second-generation Fusion Hybrid measures 1.1 inches longer and 3.4 inches wider. The result is a more spacious cabin and additional cargo storage space.

Also beginning with the second generation, the Ford Fusion Hybrid received a new 2.0L engine to replace its existing 2.5L engine, as well as a lithium-ion battery in place of its nickel-metal hydride battery.

For the 2016 model year, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets an upgraded six-speaker sound system on its base S trim, and the SE trim is bumped up to a 10-speaker audio system.

2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid Engine Options

Under the hood, every front-wheel-drive 2016 Fusion Hybrid has the same 2.0L four-cylinder engine and electric motor. A trunk-mounted lithium-ion battery pack supplies power to the electric motor when it is in use—and regenerative braking is used to intermittently recharge the battery, so you never have to worry about plugging in your car. Altogether, this hybrid configuration can put out 188 hp and is powered by a CVT.

2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid Interior

The 2016 Fusion Hybrid offers 12 solid cubic feet of trunk space, which can be extended using the standard 60/40-split-folding rear seats. Compared to the non-hybrid 2016 Fusion, the 2016 Fusion Hybrid's trunk measures six cubic feet smaller. However, this is typical for hybrid vehicles due to the lithium-ion battery pack that takes up some space in the trunk area.

Inside the cabin, the 2016 Fusion Hybrid still offers ample room for up to five people to sit comfortably. The power-adjustable driver and front-passenger seat on the SE trim and above allows for customizable support, and the rear row offers enough headroom and legroom for most adults.

Reviews for 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Overall Rating

4.6 out of 5 (5 reviews)

Better than a Prius

Bigger, more power and more comfortable than a Prius with significantly better gas mileage.

  • Fuel Economy: Average over 45 mpg
  • Ride and Handling: Comfortable ride handles well and much more power than many other hybrids.
  • Interior Space: Comfortable enough for 5 adults great headroom and good legroom even in the back.

  • Cargo Space: The trunk is smaller than a non hybrid but still big enough for two golf club bags or three medium sized suitcases.
  • Technology and Entertainment: The Bluetooth is a great feature but I have had to manually reset the sync about once or twice a month. Fortunately this is relatively easy once you know how to do it, but it's a little annoying that it will happen randomly.

Great for Commuting

Great gas mileage, smart dashboard, smooth ride.

  • Fuel Economy:
  • Technology and Entertainment:
  • Value:

  • Ride and Handling: Very low profile. You often scrape the front bumper at any dip and driveway entrance.
  • Interior Space: Cup holders are in a terrible location. Normal to tall bottles get in the way of gear shifting. They also get in the way of hand placement when you're resting your arm on the center console.
  • Visibility: I would say the door/windshield steel railing on the driver side and passenger side door is so thick that it limits visibility when looking left and right before making turns.

I enjoyed whey whole car buying experience

I bought a hybrid to economize on gas and I got that but also got a smooth driving car with so much room and lots of bells and whistles plus lots of safety options included

  • Cost to Maintain: Getting 40-45 mpg
  • Safety: Full protection airbags, lane departure feature
  • Ride and Handling: Solid car
