Land Rover Styling cues, Ford experience

Very family friendly car, averages 21mpg, lots of conveniences. Ive had the car for nearly a year and have added almost 10k miles to it. It is a very capable car, not nearly as truckish as the previous generations of Explorers were. I havent had it in serious weather so cannot rate its performance in such an environment. It is a Limited trim car so heavily equipped with features that are very convenient. It has had its A/C charge twice after a noticeable drop in cooling during peak Summer months and is clearly leaking somewhere. It has had a vibration that the Carmax techs were not able to address. It should be noted that they did everything that didnt involve actually changing out a part to fix it unless someone else was paying for it ( there was a recall from Ford on a part, which Carmax scheduled and had taken care of). I also had to replace the serpentine belt tensioner, which did in fact quiet the vibration down, but it is again appearing and a rattling noise also appears at idle.

Pros

  • Technology and Entertainment: Its got a Lot of luxury features. Ford learned form owning Land Rover. You can see the influences all over the car in its styling and AWD tech.
  • Interior Space:

Cons

  • Ride and Handling: Vibration has never been fixed after multiple visits. Worse, it can be smooth, but then rough. I thought it might be the roads I was on, but it still get it sometimes on freshly paved smooth road. I think the problem is likely unique to this particular car vs the whole line.

Great Car, for all we needed!

My husband and I had been looking for the right vehicle for about 2 years when we came across this one at Carmax.com. We were looking for specifics in a truck that my husband could work and play in. We needed a spacious family vehicle, plus one that he could continue to work in on a daily basis. This truck has all we need. We purchased the vehicle with ease, and with great rates. We worked with the team at Carmax and love the process because it was so cut and dry. No haggling, or back and forth. We actually picked a vehicle that was close but not quite was we wanted, after already getting approved. We eventually decided against that choice, but was able to find the one we love for the same price and even better of a vehicle. We could not be happier.

Pros

  • Interior Space: We are able to fit two full size booster seats and a car seat in the back with space to spare. The whole family can share with out being cramped.

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: It does take quite a bit to fill up the tank, for all the driving that we do in a day.

Perfect Size for the kids and dogs

It's as spacious as a full-sized or over-sized SUV, but much easier to drive. It's good on gas for a vehicle of it's size. One of my favorite features that I didn't even know about when I bought the car is the fact that the 3rd row seats can be flipped backward (rear facing) so that you can tailgate in comfort. The hatch stays open and you can sit in the comfort of the car seats and tailgate away. I have 3 teenagers and 2 large breed dogs. We can all ride peacefully together in the car.

Pros

  • Interior Space: It fits my family... and a few of their friends.
  • Reliability: The vehicle had a lot of miles on it when I purchased it. As a precaution, I purchased the extended warranty to cover any major repairs that might come up. So far, I have not had any issues. It's been very reliable.
  • Cargo Space: Once you get the hang of how the 3rd row works and learn to flip the seats so that the cargo area is flat, it has a TON of space.

Cons

  • Technology and Entertainment: The Ford Sync system is a bit quirky. When using bluetooth for phone calls and texting, occasionally, it seems to take an inordinate length of time for the system to recognize that the call has ended and return to the radio. Other times when voice texting, the system appears to engage but once you start speaking, you can tell that it is not working and then it disconnects from the text function. Setting up the Sync system is NOT intuitive at all in this particular model.
  • Cabin Noise: The car is a bit loud in while driving. The road noise is obvious inside the cabin. Also, the turn signal is very loud. The hand-free speaker does not seem to have any noise suppression. Therefore, it's not unusual to be speaking with someone in the car and have them ask, "What's that clicking sound?" "Just the turn signal."
  • Visibility: The hood is quite long and it takes some getting used to in terms of how far to pull into a parking space before hitting something in front of you or how far to pull into the garage. My teens are learning to drive and complain that it's hard to see out of. It does have rear sensors, but no front or side sensors.
