Transmission: Automatic Color:Red Interior Color: Black Average Vehicle Review: (4.714285714285714 reviews) The Nissan Quest was an excellent minivan. The only issue is the transmission. The year before we bought a high-mileage 2012 Quest LE from a third-party used car dealer. Within a month we had a catastrophic transmission failure. We bought a 2007 Quest from CarMax in 2007 and got 240,000 miles from it before the engine gave out in 2019. We flushed the transmission fluid every year- that’s the key. We lost the other 2012 Quest (with the pricey new transmission!) to a collision. It kept everyone so safe that we bought a 2013 from CarMax. It was fine for a couple of months but after some strange noises, the Dealership ID’d an issue with the transmission. One flush later it’s running great, and we expect will for years to come.

Reviews for Nissan

Crappy car, but gets us from A to B - so far

It is too low to the ground, it is a sedan chassis, I want a truck chassis. The rear opening is one piece - window & “tailgate” combined. First off, there is no tailgate! Second of all you can’t put stuff in the rear compartment unless the full swing of the huge door is considered. If you have anything mounted to the tow-bar you can’t use the back hatch at all. The deck of the rear storage area is flush with the bumper - if you’ve been shopping and have to park in a driveway with a decline everything falls out. No compass on the instrument cluster. The “heating” system is a joke. There is no way to get hot air out in a cold day. There is no way to turn the heater off! If it is a cool sunny day and I’d like the flow of air!!!!

Pros

  • Reliability: Has gotten us where we need to go for almost 6 months.
  • Fuel Economy: Good fuel economy.

Cons

  • Power: Like driving a sewing machine.
  • Visibility: The rear window is angled upward, visibility is awful and I don’t feel safe. The backup camera is sketchy at best. I avoid all backup situations.
  • Interior Space: You can’t fit a 4x8 sheet of lumber in it, you can’t fit anything longer than 8’ (and that’s a squeeze) in the cabin. If the car had a split rear door it would help, if the “Roof rack” had horizontal bars in addition to the vertical bars, maybe we’d have a workable system. As it is - not so much.

- Lusa Winegeart, 2015 Nissan Rogue

An excellent tool for its intended use

This is an awesome car for almost everyone!* It's roomier than you expect and has decent cargo capacity even before folding down the rear seats. It feels quick and sporty, and has all the available features you would expect in a well-equipped non-luxury brand car. Nearly all have a range way above what nearly everyone drives in a single day, and never buying gas again is the best feeling ever. I would recommend keeping a second vehicle, especially if you have need of trucks or large SUVs on occasion, but for daily work/school/errands/home driving, it will probably work for you too!

Pros

  • Cost to Maintain: There's basically no maintenance cost. Tires and brakes are the only wear items. No fluids, filters, spark plugs, no timing belt. The electric motor and gearbox are not 100% reliable, but they are if you round up.
  • Dashboard: The dash gives an excellent view of how much charge you have remaining, the maximum charge the batteries can hold, and how far you should go with what you have. If you take advantage of DC fast charging stations (Google them for your area) the cost per mile is similar to gas. If you use a home charger, it's pocket change per day. And best of all, you can do a lot of charging at ChargePoint and other charging networks for free.
  • Value: As with most used cars, the highest level trims are only a bit more expensive than the lowest, so stick to an SV or SL version of the Leaf and get a lot of high end features that other cars in its price range can't compete with, like heated front and rear seats, steering wheel, and mirrors, Bird's-Eye View parking cameras, Bluetooth, Sirius XM, and a lot more.

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: Not so much economy as range. It is limited. The Leaf around this model year is only going to get you 55-75 miles per charge depending on what the condition of the battery is. So, for most people, this is the perfect car 98% of the days you drive. If you need to be able to drive farther than that at any given time, keep a second car or look into renting when you need that.

- Kevin M, 2014 Nissan Leaf

Great Car, Just FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION YEARLY

The Nissan Quest was an excellent minivan.

Pros

  • Interior Space: Outstanding leg room for teenagers, plenty of nooks and cup holders for all passengers.
  • Cargo Space:
  • Styling: We haven't found a better-looking van to date. Not bad for a discontinued model!

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: Our 2007 had excellent fuel economy. Somehow this newer model give us less... maybe since the RPMs are higher downhills than the older model is that the tranny doesn't disengage when it doesn't get power?
  • Reliability: After a couple of months we heard a whining noise. The transmission fluid was burned. FLUSH THE TRANS FLUID yearly.
  • Cabin Noise: Cabin noise is loud only because the only rear recharging stations is in the cargo space. Great for family conversations on long trips, but makes for a loud cabin!
