About Subaru Vehicles
Overview
Subaru has been manufacturing vehicles under its nameplate for more than 50 years. Since the debut of the Subaru 360, the company has added many sedans, hatchbacks, crossovers and SUVs to its lineup. Today, most Subaru models are known for their standard all-wheel drive (AWD).

Popular Models
Subaru BRZ
The Subaru BRZ is a two-door sports car that was developed in partnership with Toyota. A departure from the rest of the company’s lineup, the BRZ prioritizes sporty performance over traction in inclement conditions. For example, it features a low center of gravity, sport-tuned suspension and limited-slip differential -- but is the only Subaru model in recent years to come with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive isn’t available.
Subaru Crosstrek
The Subaru Crosstrek is a versatile hatchback that’s equally comfortable driving around the city and going on weekend getaways. The model isn’t so large that it’s difficult to park in crowded areas, yet it affords five comfortable seats and a generous amount of cargo room. It also has elevated ground clearance, in case your adventures head off-road.
Subaru Forester
The Subaru Forester is a compact crossover that’s been in production for more than 20 years. The model features Subaru’s flat-four engine design that offers quiet performance, and it has a slightly elevated roof for increased headroom and cargo space. This has long been a favorite of families and anyone who needs a little extra room in the cabin.
Subaru Impreza
The Subaru Impreza is a compact car that stands out thanks to its included AWD. The model has a number of other useful features, such as its capable flat-four engine and multiple standard features. Some model years are available in both hatchback and sedan versions, letting drivers choose the body style based on their needs.
Subaru Legacy
The Subaru Legacy is a comfortable, spacious and well-equipped midsize sedan. It’s also a sedan that has AWD as a standard feature, which makes it stand out in the class. The Legacy has been in production for 30 years now, and the latest generations continue to offer even more style and capability on the road.
Subaru Outback
The Subaru Outback is a two-row SUV that offers plenty of room inside. There’s a generous cargo area, and all five seats can accommodate an adult comfortably. For those who want room but don’t need three rows of seats, the Outback is an excellent choice. One of our sales consultants at the Lancaster, PA CarMax store says his customers love that their Subaru Outbacks can take them almost anywhere they want to go. “I’d say that people who come to see me are motivated by the wagon’s all-wheel-drive system, and its flexibility,” he says, adding that customers who come to the store for an Outback tend to be “do-ers.”
Subaru WRX
The Subaru WRX is a four-door sports car that’s made to be driven. The model’s powerful engine options and responsive handling make both flat straightaways and mountain curves a thrill, and the standard AWD helps keep you on the road.
Subaru XV Crosstrek
The Subaru XV Crosstrek is a capable two-row SUV that’s ready for the daily commute and weekend getaway. Small enough to park in a tight space yet big enough to load up with gear, the model is up for whatever you might have planned.

Reviews for Subaru
This is a great ride and affordable!!!
The drive is smooth and solid. The All Wheel Drive makes you feel like you can go anywhere! My favorite thing ( besides the awesome GPM ) is the wireless Bluetooth... I can answer calls and listen to the music on my phone. My CrossTrek allows me to comply with the Hands Free laws in my state and enjoy driving!!
Pros
- Ride and Handling: Subaru has made significant progress with All Wheel Drive. I really feel connected to the road.
- Fuel Economy: I am able to see my average GPM displayed which gives me confidence in Subaru’s efficiency.
- Power: When I press the accelerator the vehicle responds immediately. With the shift paddles I am able to control deceleration by downshifting without taking my hands off the steering wheel.
Cons
- Cabin Noise: There is significant cabin noise at highway speeds. The glass allows for great visibility but increases the difficulty with sound insulation.
Subaru or bust
The Crosstrek is a great crossover suv. The cabin space and cargo room are perfect for a daily driver and for road trips. The awd allows for a smooth ride and more than enough capability for dirt roads and beach trips with sand dunes. The attention to handling and the quality of interior design speak volumes. Safety is a known factor and provides peace of mind. Here’s to many years and adventures in the Crosstrek!
Pros
- Fuel Economy: Great on the highway!
- Reliability: Subaru’s long standing reputation speaks for it self
- Weather Versatility: All wheel drive and ready for anything!
Cons
- Dashboard: No room for a phone mount
- Power: The cvt makes pick up lag.
- Technology and Entertainment: The infotainment could definitely use an upgrade
Hard to tell
Subaru has a great reputation. However, I had to put it in the CarMax shop so often in the first three months that the warranties were up before I had a chance to do much test driving, and now there's the covid virus and I'm grounded.
Pros
- Fuel Economy:
Cons
- Ride and Handling: Lack of lumbar support becomes noticeable after a half hour.
