About the Ford Transit Connect

Vehicle Summary

The Ford Transit Connect is a compact panel van that has been in production since 2012. Currently in its second generation of production (2013-present), the Transit Connect is unique in that most trim configurations are available in both cargo van and wagon body styles. Commercial buyers will appreciate the cargo van configuration, which comes with standard features like overhead storage shelves and tie-down hooks. The wagon configuration, on the other hand, is great for buyers with large families and/or greater cargo storage needs.

With seating for up to seven passengers and up to 128.6 cubic feet of cargo space in all models, the Ford Transit Connect strikes a great balance between convenience and comfort—and may be an ideal alternative to a full-size minivan.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between the Ford Transit Connect XL and XLT?

A: Included features are the main difference between the Ford Transit Connect XL trim and the XLT trim. In the 2017 model, for example, the XLT comes with features that the XL doesn't offer—including a rearview camera, upgraded sound system with additional speakers, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Q: How many passengers can ride in the Ford Transit Connect?

A: The passenger capacity of the Ford Transit Connect varies from five to seven, depending on the trim and wheelbase selected. Seven-passenger seating is standard on the XL trim, but five- and seven-passenger configurations are offered on the XLT and Titanium trim.

Q: Does the Ford Transit Connect come in all-wheel drive?

A: No, all current years and trims on the Ford Transit Connect come with front-wheel drive only. Ford has announced, however, that "Intelligent All-Wheel Drive" will be available on the upcoming 2020 Ford Transit Connect.

Great little van for lighter loads

Holds a lot and great gas mileage for a truck

Pros

  • Fuel Economy: Inexpensive to operate
  • Cargo Space: Holds quite a bit for the size
  • Value: Low cost option for light duty deliver or service vehicle

Cons

  • Cabin Noise: Not the quietest ride but mine is just the metal interior
  • Interior Space: Not much room up front with cargo divider but still fine because lots of room in back
  • Power: Power weak for heavy loads but not really designed for heavy loads, plenty of power under normal conditions
