About the 2016 GMC Canyon

Vehicle Summary

A midsize pickup truck like the 2016 GMC Canyon can be a sensible choice if you do occasional towing and hauling, but can't quite justify the need for a full-size pickup. Meanwhile, the 2016 Canyon still offers three compelling engine sizes, all of which are available with four-wheel drive. And depending on the size of your squad, seating on the 2016 Canyon can vary from two people on the extended cab to five passengers on crew cab models.

Generation Overview

After a brief hiatus for the 2013 and 2015 model years, the 2016 GMC Canyon returned in 2015—marking the beginning of this truck's second generation of production (2015-2020). When this generation launched, it did so with completely revamped engine options and notable upgrades, such as an eight-inch touchscreen interface and driver-assistance features. By 2016, a turbocharged diesel engine was introduced, as was Apple CarPlay smartphone integration for select trim levels.

2016 GMC Canyon Engine Options

A 2.5L four-cylinder engine at 200 hp is standard on the 2016 Canyon, as is a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. Both a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system are also available.

Another engine, a 3.6L V6 rated at 305 hp, is optional and comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel or four-wheel drive.

On the SLE and SLT crew cabs, a turbocharged 2.8L four-cylinder diesel engine at 181 hp is optional. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is available.

2016 GMC Canyon Cab and Bed Options

There are three cab configurations and two bed lengths available on the 2016 Canyon. The standard cab is an "extended cab," which can be had in either a two- or four-seat configuration with folding rear jump seats. If you need more seating capacity, check out the crew cab, which seats five passengers.

A 5.2-foot standard bed and 6.2-foot long bed are also available to accommodate your hauling needs.
