Transmission: Automatic Color:Gray Interior Color: Black Average Vehicle Review: (4.5 reviews) The new 6 speed transmission (6L80?) Is complete trash. It short shifts in an attempt to save revs and therefore fuel. Cruising at 25-35 mph the trans cannot decide what gear to be in and stumbles all over itself. The Active Fuel Management (AFM) will shut off 4 cylinders when cruising to save fuel and while this is a good idea, it is not well executed when paired to this transmission. It will cause a noticable surge and lag in and out of AFM mode. These truck come with "grade breaking" on by default. Totally unnecessary. My truck (purchased at 19k miles) went to the dealer for a trans overhaul at 21k miles for "harsh" downshifting. It felt like was was being re-ended under hard breaking from 2nd gear shifting down to 1st.

I would like to say your pre delivery checks leave a lot tp be desired. Example the truck I purchased had 96,000 plus miles and within days of purchase the 02 sensor went out. After further checking I had a miss, so when I started looking saw it still had the original, plugs, wires, coils an PVC. As well as both the cabin filter & air filters were filthy both had not been changed for a long time. Even though your company furnished the labor for the 02 sensors I was never reimbursed for the cost of the 02 sensors. Your pre delivery checks are very bad!

Pros

  • Interior Space:

Cons

  • Cost to Maintain:

- John Fischer, 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Transmission is garbage.

The new 6 speed transmission (6L80?) Is complete trash. It felt like was was being re-ended under hard breaking from 2nd gear shifting down to 1st.

Pros

  • Power: Lots of pep in this rev-happy 5.3L
  • Styling: Easy on the eyes
  • Ride and Handling: Rides/handles great. Unlike most big trucks

Cons

  • Reliability: I don't think this trans will last
  • Cost to Maintain: Again, trans.
  • Value: Trans, trans, trans.

- Mat Smith, 2017 GMC Sierra 1500

I love this truck but

I love this truck great power especially coming from a 4 cylinder crossover. tows like a champ no issues except some times if you don’t complete the remote start cycle the a/c won’t work for about half the day. there’s a cord that constantly hangs from the bottom and I saw another Sierra 1500 same generation as mine same cord hanging. the seats are great but the memory portion of it is kinda slow and you have to hold the button till it goes to that position ( that’s just me being nit picky) over all fuel economy surprisingly great. all in all it really just has some electrical gremlins (nothing that won’t fix itself) that said would definitely buy again

Pros

  • Ride and Handling: actually surprises me how little body roll there is for a truck especially with how comfortable it is on the local roads (Corpus Christi, Texas)
  • Braking: GM had been know for making extraordinary brakes for their vehicles and with that said this is no exception stops on a dime
  • Interior Space: for a extended cab truck had a decent amount of room interior wise I have two pit bulls that fit in the back no issues and with the back door being by it’s self and not apart of the drives/passengers door getting them in and out in tight areas in way easier

Cons

  • Power: the power is there it’s just the delivery that’s not the greatest and that falls on the 6 speed transmission. I feel like it’s mainly the tune that comes from factory, it just takes so long to find a gear and figure out what to do, which is fixable.
  • Technology and Entertainment: the infotainment system wasn’t super happy with my old phone took a lot of effort to connect to my phone and even at that it still disconnected mid trip. but only I got a new phone and updated it no real issues anymore
  • Visibility: overall visibility is good but my biggest issue is in reverse when the mirrors go down to look at the lines and my infotainment screen goes to the brightness of the sun itself to show me where I need to go blinding me in the process. there’s no way (that I know of) to adjust the mirrors for your personal preference either or the brightness of the screen in reverse. At 5 in the morning (unless I am trying to receive a personal at home x-ray) seeing the inside of my eyelids is really unnecessary and I feel like poses a safety problem
