Generation Overview

The 2016 GMC Terrain is part of this midsize crossover's first generation of production (2010-2017). When it debuted, it was marketed for its ample cargo space, quiet ride, and punchy acceleration from its 2.5L four-cylinder engine. A 3.0L V6 engine was also optional on most trims for those who desire more power.

By the 2016 model year specifically, the Terrain saw further upgrades such as new available driver-assistance features, including blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. The existing CD player was also dropped for the 2016 model year in favor of an additional storage compartment. By the 2016 model year, a 3.6L V6 engine also replaced the existing 3.0L V6 option.

2016 GMC Terrain Engine Options

A 2.4L four-cylinder engine at 182 hp is standard on the 2016 Terrain, as is a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is also standard, although an all-wheel drive system is optional on every trim except the base SL.

Optional on most 2016 Terrain trims is a more powerful 3.6L V6 engine at 301. This engine is also paired to the same six-speed automatic transmission.

2016 GMC Terrain Storage Space

The 2016 GMC Terrain offers competitive storage space, including 31.6 cubic feet behind its second row. Need more cargo space? The 2016 Terrain also comes with a sliding rear seat that makes it easy to get out of the way, allowing you to maximize cargo space at 63.7 cubic feet.

2016 GMC Terrain Trim Configurations

Five trim configurations are offered on the 2016 Terrain. Check out a sampling of features for each trim to help you decide which might be best for your needs, keeping in mind that these features are specific to the 2016 model.
