About the 2018 GMC Terrain

Vehicle Summary

Opting for a small crossover SUV doesn't mean sacrificing performance in the 2018 GMC Terrain. All three engine offerings on this crossover are turbocharged, offering ample power and zesty acceleration when you need it. Every 2018 Terrain was also offered with all-wheel drive when sold new, so look for a used model with this feature for extra confidence in adverse road conditions.

Its motivated engine offerings and generous standard features (including a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system) make the 2018 Terrain a great choice for your everyday driving needs.

Generation Overview

The 2018 Terrain launched this crossover's second generation of production (2018-2020), bringing along with it a shorter and lighter frame. To be exact, the 2018 Terrain measures three inches shorter than its 2017 counterpart and a full 400 pounds lighter. Combine this with a revised trio of available engines and the second-generation Terrain is quite a departure from its previous lineup.

2018 GMC Terrain Engine Options

Standard on the 2018 Terrain's base SL trim is a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine good for 170 hp. This is the sole engine offered on the base trim and is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

On the SLT and SLE trims, a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine at 252 hp was optional when the vehicle was sold new. This engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All 2018 Terrain Denali models come with this engine.

Another optional engine for the SLT and SLE trims is a turbocharged 1.6L diesel at 137 hp, which also comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Every engine on the 2018 Terrain was available with all-wheel drive when this crossover was sold new; all-wheel drive versions come equipped with a knob that allows drivers to switch between AWD and FWD modes.

2018 GMC Terrain Interior

You'll enjoy 31.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of the 2018 Terrain. This can extend to a full 63 cubic feet by folding the rear seats down, which is quick and easy to do with the pull of a lever. The 2018 Terrain also features a standard fold-flat passenger seat for even more storage when you need it most.

Throughout the cabin, small-item storage is generous, and rear doors offer clever panels for additional space.
