About the 2017 Jeep Renegade
If you’re looking for a nimble and fun-to-drive subcompact SUV that still offers plenty of off-road prowess, then give the 2017 Jeep Renegade a look. Underneath its appealing exterior lies a capable chassis that handily performs on dirt trails while maintaining a pavement-friendly ride. The 2017 Jeep Renegade also offers plenty of clever little touches, including a unique sunroof system that features fully removable panels you can store inside the vehicle. You’ll get your motivation from a base 160-hp 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a larger 2.4L inline-four with 20 more hp and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The unique Trailhawk® trim offers a more capable 4x4 system along with a few other upgrades for maximum off-road capability. The 2017 Jeep Renegade packs a generous number of features into a fun and friendly vehicle.

Ever since taking over from the Jeep Patriot in 2014, the Jeep Renegade has firmly held its spot as the marque’s subcompact SUV offering. The 2017 Jeep Renegade remains relatively unchanged, offering many of the same features that make the subcompact SUV such an appealing purchase. Engine choices remain the same from the previous year, with the 1.4L turbocharged inline-four remaining a mainstay in the Sport and Latitude trims. The Trailhawk and Limited trims benefit from a 2.4L inline-four with 180 hp on tap. A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 1.4L engine, while the 2.4L engine depends on a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Despite few mechanical changes, there are a couple of special edition trims to take note of. The first is the Desert Hawk®, a unique trim that offers a distinctive hood decal, unique 17-inch wheels and an exclusive Mojave Sand exterior color. The Desert Hawk also uses the Trailhawk’s 2.4L engine. The Altitude offers larger 18-inch gloss black wheels, gloss black exterior trim and black cloth upholstery. Unlike the Desert Hawk, the Altitude sticks with the 1.4L turbocharged engine.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's independent crash tests help you make informed decisions about vehicle safety. NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings give consumers insights into how vehicles perform in crash tests, with more stars equaling higher safety ratings. Here are the ratings for the 2017 Jeep Renegade. Reviews for 2017 Jeep Renegade
Great compact 4x4
The Trailhawk is a tough little vehicle at a reasonable price. Does great in snow and mud. I have to go over the pass about twice a month and have not had any issues so far in deep snow. Goes well on the logging trails I use to get to various fishing and hiking locations.
- Ride and Handling: Does well on and off road. Despite the size it is a heavy vehicle.
- Interior Space: Fits 5 adults comfortably enough.
- Seat Comfort: Comfortable on long trips.
- Power: The Trailhawk needs additional powertrain options. The 2.4 liter is underpowered considering the vehicles weight.
- Fuel Economy: Fuel economy is pretty good but a 12 gallon tank is too small.
- Technology and Entertainment: Phone sync speakers does not pass through radio when using Google drive.
Beautiful car with so many perks!
It has so many cool features and is great in snow and rain! The color makes it stand out!
- Value: It's an amazing jeep!
- Interior Space: Very roomy!
- Seat Comfort: Comfortable
Love my little jeeper!
Its a great car, awesome gas mileage, super comfortable, and I love all the bells and whistles. Fun bonus, it comes with cool little "easter eggs" hidden everywhere!
- Fuel Economy:
- Interior Space: My 6'5 boyfriend can't fit in it very well with our two carseats, but I think it's safe to assume that's the exception and not the rule.
