Excellent value

2013 Kia Optima Aaron Black - Brownsburg, IN 09/29/2015

Fuel mileage is good with the 4 cylinder, but it has decent power for a 2 ton car and doesnt feel underpowered in nearly all situations. Responsive handling, and nice extras like Bluetooth standard. Spacious interior even with all 5 seats filled. Smooth ride.

Very happy so far

2013 Kia Optima J C - Woodbridge, VA 12/19/2016

We are very happy with our Kia Optima. I will admit, when we purchased it, our most recent vehicle was a 2004, so it had been a while since we got a new car. But it has all the modern bells & whistles, which you would expect on a Toyota or Nissan or anything else. Yet it was very affordable. We love the styling, the smooth acceleration, the feel of the car on the road--altogether very satisfied.

2013 Kia Optima Overview

The 2013 Nissan Altima is part of the fifth generation of this Japanese model. Based on Nissan's concept car, the Ellure, the redesigned Altima was introduced to the buying public during the summer of 2012. Released as a four-door sedan, the 2013 Nissan Altima features a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 182 horsepower, while providing an EPA-estimated 27 mpg during city driving and 38 mpg on the highway. An available 3.5-liter V6 engine with 270 horsepower delivers 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg during highway driving. This front-wheel drive, midsize car features an automatic XTRONIC CVT (continuously tariable Transmission), with both engines available with paddle shifters. Models with a V6 engine feature a manual shift mode.

2013 Kia Optima History

The midsize sedan was introduced during the 2000 model year. It received a redesign in 2011, with higher-end materials in the cabin, a more sculpted exterior, and the option of a turbocharged engine.

  • The 2013 Kia Optima is a part of the third generation.
  • The EX Turbo trim was discontinued in 2013.
  • There is a hybrid version available.

How It Drives

The 2013 Kia Optima has high ride quality for drivers and passengers alike. It rides comfortably and responsively, making it great for daily commutes or long road trips. Tall passengers may find the headroom a little tight, however.

All 2013 Kia Optimas are front-wheel drive and are a more fuel-economic choice. The overall horsepower is exceptional, and the difference in acceleration capabilities between the hybrid model and the standard are negligible.

Used 2013 Kia Optima Value

It's hard not to notice the 2013 Kia Optima. After its redesign in 2011, the 2013 model is one of the more stylish family sedans on the market. The Optima sports a sleek body style, a handsome cabin, and strong engine options. It's well-equipped, too - even its base model comes with alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, and cruise control.

The Kia Optima is a well-rounded, midsize sedan that balances fuel efficiency with power, and an enjoyable driving experience. For people who are looking for even better fuel efficiency, we recommend looking at the available hybrid models as well.

Design & Performance

The Kia Optima has many configurations and three trim levels:

  • The base-level Kia Optima LX comes with 16-inch wheels, full power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system.
  • Also available is the LX Convenience package, which adds a powered driver's seat and lumbar adjustment support. Additionally, the Convenience package has an auto-dimming mirror.
  • One step up is the Optima EX. It has all the features listed in the Convenience package as well as bigger wheels, keyless ignition, and leather upholstery.
  • The Optima SX is more performance-oriented. It has a turbocharged engine, 18-inch wheels, a sports-tuned suspension, and additional transmission shifters.
  • The Kia Optima SX Limited is completely new for 2013, with 18-inch chrome wheels, red brake calipers, chrome trim, a navigation system, and upgraded leather upholstery.

The Kia Optima is also available as a hybrid. The Hybrid is offered with two trim levels: the Optima Hybrid LX and the Optima Hybrid EX. Both trim levels mimic their conventional companions.

Powertrain & Engine

Both of the regular four-cylinder engines are fairly impressive in power. The LX and EX come with a 2.4L, four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard for the LX, but a six-speed automatic is optional to swap in. That very same automatic is standard on the EX.

The SX, meanwhile, is powered by a different beast. It has a 2.0L, turbocharged four-cylinder engine and produces 274 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard for this model.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

The 2013 Kia Optima has an impressive cabin. The Optima is built with soft-touch materials and all hard plastics are well-textured.

  • The Uvo electronics interface is available on all trim levels, barring the LX model. It provides voice control of cell phones and turn-by-turn directions.
  • The cabin is fairly spacious, with ample legroom in the front and rear seats. Headroom, however, is a bit tighter, especially for taller passengers.
  • The Optima Hybrid's trunk has less space due to the rear hybrid battery pack.
