I have had my 2006 Mazda 3s for 30 days now and could not be happier. It does not take much to reach 65 on the highway and handles very well. I love the interior space and leather seats. The gas milage is good considering gas is at $3.00 a gallon. A tank of gas lasts about a week (325 miles) and I like the 6 cd player sound system. This car has about 90% of the features I was looking for and I was very excited that I found it.
I have been driving my 'new' 2006 Mazda3 for about 6 weeks and have no regrets. It has the 2.0 liter engine, a 5-speed stick, 4-wheel disc brakes, side air bags, cruise control. The interior is nicely finished. It feels much nicer than most manufacturer's lower line cars. Front seat space is generous. The steering wheel not only tilts, but telescopes. So, I have been able to fine-tune my driving position to perfection. Rear seating is comfortable for 2 adults and bearable for 3.
Most importantly, though, it handles with exhilarating precision and agility. It stops on a dime. Acceleration is peppy (esp. for a 2.0 liter engine). I'm getting about 30MPG in mixed city/highway driving.
This is also (IMHO) the best-looking, sportiest small car around. What a great looking car!
The only downside is that rear visibility is hampered by a high trunk and somewhat wide rear roof pillars. I have to take much greater care backing out of parking spots than I do when driving my wife's 2006 Scion xB.
