Most small cars are boring to look at and drive, but not the Mazda 3. Great design, superb handling, good acceleration, and decent ride make any trip - short or long - a pleasure. Visibility is very good and all the controls are logically arranged and easy to operate. I have the hatchback version and with the folding rear seats, I have no problem hauling stuff from Home Depot or a big Costco run. I have owned the Mazda 3 for nearly 7 years and there have been no maintenance or repair issues. The running costs are very low - just oil changes and the normal items per Mazda's service schedule; and gas mileage is over 30 mpg combined city/highway. On the negative side, cabin noise levels are a bit elevated, the center console screen is small, and the Bluetooth interface can be temperamental at times.

CostToMaintain: Only need to spend money on oil and filter changes. Original brakes after driving it for over 110,000 miles!
FuelEconomy: Gets over 30 mpg city/highway combined.

CabinNoise: Elevated cabin noise - especially at highway speeds when compared to newer cars with more insulation.
