About The Mazda CX-9
Overview
The Mazda CX-9 is a full-size crossover that drives like a car. For moving people while having fun behind the wheel, a used Mazda CX-9 is an excellent choice. The Mazda CX-9 was first released in 2006, and 2013-2015 Mazda CX-9 models are part of that initial generation. These model years come in three trims—Sport, Touring and Grand Touring—all of which are powered by a strong 3.7L V6 that’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

2016-2018 Mazda CX-9
The first major redesign of the Mazda CX-9 infused the model with Mazda’s KODO: Soul of Motion® design aesthetics and SKYACTIV® advanced engineering. Another trim was also added to the lineup, giving the 2016-2018 Mazda CX-9s a total of four trim levels. All of these are powered by a 2.5L turbocharged engine that delivers significant power. Thanks to these improvements, the Mazda CX-9 is a joy to drive. Whether you’re behind the wheel of an entry-level 2017 Mazda CX-9 Sport or a fully loaded 2018 Mazda CX-9 Signature, you’ll be in charge of a finely-engineered marvel.

Reviews for Mazda CX-9
Unhappy, unsatisfied, disappointed
I like the vehicle model in itself but have been having electrical issues from the start. One week in and I should’ve returned it
Pros
- Styling: It’s very pretty
- Seat Comfort: Bought it because it was up high and comfortable on my back
- Ride and Handling: I loved that it was a 6 cyclones
Cons
- Dashboard: Issues from day 1
- Reliability: I don’t feel safe in this car
- Technology and Entertainment: Having electrical issues and it’s only a 16
Dream car!!
It has most of the bells and whistles. Beautiful exterior and interior. Lots of power and surprising speed considering its size. Third row is small however the option for back seat folddown giving tons of trunk space is amazing!
Pros
- Technology and Entertainment: Love that music connects and sounds beautiful
- Ride and Handling: Smooth ride, very comfortable
- Power: Resisting the urge to put the pedal down is quite difficult!
Cons
- Seat Comfort: Seats are fairly comfortable but can't ever seem to position in a way that suits me. Also not having the settings available is annoying as my spouse is much taller and needs to adjust every time we switch.
- Styling: Have noticed a blind spot when trying to look out passenger side window
- Cabin Noise: Seems loud unfortunately
Reliable performance at a great price!
Even being a 4400lbs 3rd row seat SUV, I was surprised of the car-like handling and ride. The steering is light and inputs are responsive. The 273HP V-6 is smooth and mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission that makes use of the power by keeping the revs up when accelerating.
Pros
- Ride and Handling: Car-like and does not feel like a 4400lbs SUV
- Power: Feels quicker than what the HP numbers show. This is thanks to the 6 speed transmission.
- Cargo Space: Plenty of room for our baby, three dogs and luggage. The CX9 also has once of the highest tow ratings for circa 2012 (3500lbs)
Cons
- Fuel Economy: The one downfall of the CX9 is the fuel economy, but it is only 2-3 MPGs lower than others. Driving style will matter most.
