Wonderful, reliable, trustworthy family car

The last car we owned was a 2000 Toyota Avalon. We drove it for 16 years and would be driving it yet if my husband had not totaled it last December. It had 171,000 miles on it and it never gave any trouble. When we went to buy another car there was no question as to what car we would buy. We only looked at Avalons. In the 16 years since we bought our last car they have made so many technical advances that this car is loaded to the hilt with everything uou could put on a car. It is a dream car. We love Avalons because of the safety, reliability, interior size, gas mileage, etc. This car has so many little compartments to put things. They have used every little space. We love it, love it, love it!

Avalon's Nav System is Inferior

Our 2008 Avalon is an excellent cae and we have been satisfied in every respect except one very notable exception: the navigation system. The user interface of the Avalon is annoying and very hard to use. It takes a good amount of studying to learn how to use it at all. The first indication of this is when you notice that it uses a "joystick" in leiu of a touch screen. The feature comes at an outrageous price and has a design that seems far less advanced than any $200 navigation system one can buy at Radio Shack. My 2008 map CD is out of date and the new updated CD costs $265. The fact that it even uses a CD is disapointing. Most of the modern GPS devices use a small plug-in memory chip that can be updated on-line for about $45. The Toyota system also chooses to play nanny by prohibiting anyone from changing the destination unless the car is at a complete stop.

Best Car made for the money!

I've owned two cars in the last 21 years. A 1995 Avalon - first one made, drove it to 165K and sold it to a friend. A 2005 Avalon that I'm still driving at 205K miles. Never did any major work to either car. Biggest back seat I've ever been in. Newer models have gotten a little smaller.
