It handles so smoothly and gets excellent gas mileage, which is the reason we went with this car. We wanted a larger SUV that would suit our active lifestyles, as well as accompany our 2 dogs. However, we were deterred by many SUVs due to the horrible gas mileage. Honestly, its been 100 years since cars became a household commodity - one would think more advancements had been made in that time. Anyways, the Highlander Hybrid was the only one that had the interior size and gas mileage we wanted at an affordable price point in our budget. All the little luxury features on this non-luxury car make it a joy to drive and to ride in.

Because of its hybrid battery you have more horesepower in the car and the battery breaks for you, saving you money on the break pads. We drove it cross country in the winter and it handled so well. We also have a trailer on it for various things we tow and it doesn't skip a beat. I have had no issues with this car. Thanks to Toyota's quality I will never switch to another car.

Transmission: Automatic Color:Red Interior Color: Average Vehicle Review: (0 reviews) I traded in a 2007 Ford Expedition for the Highlander Hybrid. I went from getting 14mpg in the city to 34mpg. With gas prices going higher the mileage difference saves me approx $120 per month in gas. The vehicle has much more giddy-up than my Ford did. The digital display for the GPS and all features of the vehicle is difficult naviagate at times, but probably because I don't play with it enough. I researched the 2006 model and noticed there was an important recall for that model year. Prior to purchasing the vehicle I checked with dealer to see if the car had been serviced for the recall part (a $1,900 part) and it had not. Within 3 days of purchasing vehicle I had it at Toyota dealer and they sevrice the recall and the vehicle drives even better afterwards. Germans and Japanese make the best quality cars. Stay away from American made cars as the quality is not very good.

Not all Toyotas are reliable

The car started giving me trouble soon after I bought it. Starting with tyre pressures followed very recently by errors in brakes and airbags. I bought a Toyota betting on its reliability.. I was wrong

2006 Highlander Hybrid

I bought the vehicle used with 18,000 miles on it. Overall, the car is lightweight and gets great milage. The front driver side seat could be more comfortable and the rear bench seat squeeks when someone is not sitting in it. Overall, I am pleased with car for the price I paid.

didn't know what to expect

I bought my Highlander in January of 2007. I was expecting something close to the MPG estimates of 32 city and 26 hwy. What I am getting is an average of 24 both city and hwy. I have never achieved 30 MPG anywhere. I get excited when I get 26 in the city, where most of my driving occurs. I guess I expected more. It dosen't make much difference how you drive it, slow and cautious or regular with starts and stops like everyone else, I still get 24 MPG. I talked to the dealer and got no satisfaction, just a bunch of double talk about how mileage estatements are figured. I like the car, but I wish they would be more forthright in what you may expect in real time mileage.
