Generation Overview

While the Big Three represents the bulk of full-size pickup truck options in the current market, the Toyota Tundra makes for a compelling alternative. The 2013 Toyota Tundra represents the last year of the second-generation model introduced back in 2007. As a result, the 2013 model carries over the vast majority of features and options from the previous year. A 4.0L V6 serves as the base engine for the Tundra, offering 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to the 4.6L V8 gives you 310 hp to work with, while the available 5.7L V8 gives you 381 hp and an ample 401 lb-ft of torque. V6-equipped models rely on a five-speed automatic transmission, whereas V8-equipped models benefit from the extra cog offered by the six-speed automatic transmission.

You’ll find the 2013 Toyota Tundra in base Tundra, mid-level Limited and top-tier Platinum trims, along with several distinctive packages. The Tundra trim charges out of the gate with dual-zone air conditioning, cloth seating, power windows and door locks, a 40/20/40-split bench seat, four-speaker audio system and 18-inch steel wheels. While all trims come available with 4WD, it’s worth noting that some features are limited to specific cab style configurations. For instance, the Double Cab and CrewMax variants of the Tundra trim offer remote keyless entry, a six-speaker audio system and an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat.

The Limited trim limits you to the Double Cab and CrewMax cab styles. Notable features include 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic climate control, leather upholstery with heated front seats, Optitron gauges and 10-way power adjustments for the driver’s seat. You’ll also get a JBL® six-disc CD player with MP3 and WMA playback capability, along with Bluetooth® connectivity and available SiriusXM® satellite radio.2

For 2013, the Platinum finally becomes its own trim, whereas it was previously available as an optional package. Limited to the CrewMax cab style, the Platinum adds a variety of chrome exterior trim and flashy 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Other highlights include perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front bucket seats and wood-grain-style interior trim.

Specific trims could also be paired with a number of optional packages, depending on configuration. An available Work Truck Package added vinyl seating, matte black bumpers and a matte black grille to the base Tundra trim. The TRD Off-Road Package added features like an off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein® shock absorbers. The 4WD-only TRD Rock Warrior Package added distinctive graphics and 17-inch split six-spoke alloy wheels, capped off with a color-keyed front bumper and grille surround.

Woderful truck, so far, no problems

It really is a wonderful truck, it may be a little too big, but everything works so well and it is so smooth on the highway or in town. It has a huge space inside and in the deck area. The expected reliability is great and, so far, is there. I bought a one year old fleet model with 20,000 miles and have had no problems .

Great Toyota quality at a reduced cost

This truck has the TSS off road package which makes it sit up high and makes it look a lot better with the bigger wheels and step. It has everything I really need with a larger cargo box than the 4door.
