Golf GL TDI

I have a 04 VW Golf TDI GL. I simply love the car the fuel economy is simply amazing (40 mpg real mileage). The car is reasonably quick (177 lb/ft of torque), it's no sports car but certainly is faster than anything that is in comparable fuel efficiency. Pros: Turbo Diesel, it is reasonably quick Very spacious inside, little bit of a squeeze for the back seats. Really great storage, I've fit a queen size memory foam mattress (folded) inside the cab. Ride is comfortable while giving firm steering. Cons: GL trim has steel wheels/hubcaps. Rear view mirror visibility is poor with the rear headrests up.

Fantastic car with many pros

The Golf R is a great car. Subtle, but handsome looks, brilliant interior and the general feel of quality just shows everywhere. Daily driving it is comfortable, beautifully equipped and rides very well. Once you decide to give it a bit of a push and get out on some winding roads, it just completely changes. The four wheel drive system provides an astonishing amount of grip while the turbo charged 2.0L engine surges once above 3000 RPM all the way to redline. It gives you a gentle push back in the seat and it wants to get to that next corner as quick as it can. Brakes are fantastic and slow you just as quickly. Four six feet people can sit in it in comfort without issue and the interior feels more like a luxury car then hot hatch.

I love my VW!

My Golf has been excellent the past 5 years. I have driven it long distances out of state and never had any problems with it. It is comfortable driving at fast speeds on the highway and can manuever tightly in a pinch on city streets if necessary. I get comments from people that see the interior of the Golf for the first time that they didn't think it would be this roomy inside. Two things that bother me: The crank knob for reclining the seat is not easy to use, a hassle on road trips when you want to rest. Not only do you have to crank this thing all the way down, but you have to crank it all the way up too! Good thing I don't have arthritic wrists! Also, the drink holder is right in front of the mouth of the CD player. In order to put a CD in you have to take the drinks out of the cupholders.
