This five-passenger midsize hybrid is equipped with a turbocharged engine combined with a 20-kW electric motor to cut down on stops at the pump without sacrificing performance in the process.
The Jetta Hybrid also offers generous standard features that include automatic dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and full power accessories on its 2014 model. Q: Is the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid a plug-in?
A: No, the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is a traditional hybrid vehicle that combines a gasoline combustion engine with an electric motor and battery. Regenerative braking and energy from the gas motor is used to charge the battery; it cannot be plugged in.
Q: How many horsepower is a Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid?
A: The Jetta Hybrid is equipped with a turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder engine and 20-kW electric motor for an output of 170 hp on its 2013-2016 models.
Q: What fuel economy does a Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid get?
A: Fuel economy can vary by model year. However, the 2015 Jetta Hybrid with turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder engine, 20-kW electric motor, and automatic transmission gets an EPA-estimated 44 mpg combined.1
Q: How does a Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid work?
A: Like any traditional hybrid, the VW Jetta works using a combination of a traditional gas combustion engine, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery pack to optimize fuel economy. Using regenerative braking and power from the gas engine, the Jetta Hybrid's battery pack can be charged while driving. Built-in computers inside the Jetta Hybrid also determine when it is more efficient to use the electric motor versus when the gasoline combustion engine should be utilized.
1Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.

Reviews for Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid
Fantastic car, not a "typical" Hybrid.
I'm more of a Full Size Sedan type of person, but I got the Jetta Hybrid for HOV advantages in VA, and it doesn't "Look" like the many Hybrids out there. I love it, I drive around 500-600 miles a week, averaging around 43 MPG hwy. I read many reviews about how many hybrids are sluggish, and that's absolutely not the case with this car. The regenerative braking takes some getting used to, as they're more touchy than an a non-hybrid. Picture getting new brakes that never break in. The car can ride for around 10 miles on pure electricity, and if you're in the city you should have no problem keeping the battery charged. I've got a love/hate with idling in batter power though, because while it saves gas, it sometimes hesitates off the line.

Fun, but needs maintenance
This car is a lot of fun and great on the pocket book, with a few exceptions. My car has now been at the dealer for maintenance twice in the 4 months I have owned it. 2 weeks after purchasing the air conditioner compression broke. Just now I had to take it in a second time for the check engine light being one. Extremely frustrating.

I cannot believe how much i love this car
This car makes me so happy. It has all the tech features of the new hybrids - a great stereo (Fender), panel display etc. It has serious power - I haven't even tried to put my foot down for a prolonged period of time because it goes zero-fast in no time at all. It has fun features we keep finding - like it lights up the side of the road when you put your signal on. The heated seats come on lightning fast on those cold mornings. The defroster for front and back windows takes just seconds, as does the air-conditioning. And of course the gas mileage is ridiculously good - about 39 mpg for me so far.
- Fuel Economy: 39 mpg - i never go to the gas station
- Power: There is never a doubt that you can pass on the uphill
- Technology and Entertainment: Fender radio, fun panel features to play with
- Cabin Noise: The premium SEL wheels make highway driving a bit loud
- Cargo Space: The battery does make you sacrifice trunk space a bit
