The CT5-V is the latest in a line of Cadillac midsize sport sedans, delivering strong performance while maintaining the expected level of luxury from this legendary brand. The standard CT5-V fits the bill for a proper sport sedan, blending ride comfort with impressive agility, but it can’t match rivals like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. However, the extreme CT5-V Blackwing with its powerful supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine easily counters the German automakers for considerably less money and is even offered with a manual transmission.

First generation Cadillac CT5-V

The Cadillac CT5-V arrived in 2020, continuing the brand’s performance credentials as a successor to the discontinued CTS-V. While the CT5-V featured BREMBO® brakes, high-performance tires, and a unique chassis with Magnetic Ride Control, there was some disappointment from enthusiasts, as the CT5-V’s twin-turbo V6 was about 300 horsepower short of the supercharged V8 in the model it replaced. That issue was resolved in 2022 when Cadillac added the Blackwing to the CT5-V lineup. The CT5-V Blackwing went back to the supercharged V8, now delivering 668 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, making it a proper successor to the CTS-V.

When it first arrived, the CT5-V wasn’t as luxurious as a BMW or Mercedes-Benz, but with its 2025 updates, it offers a more upscale, high-tech environment. A 33-inch display spans most of the dashboard, encompassing the infotainment touchscreen and digital gauge cluster. Also available is Super Cruise®, Cadillac's hands-free semi-autonomous driving technology.
