2025 Genesis G70 review

The Genesis G70 is a stylish compact luxury sedan that debuted as a 2019 model to take on the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It derived its rear-wheel-drive platform from its corporate cousin, the Kia Stinger, though in a shorter overall length. It offers strong power from a pair of turbocharged engines, and all-wheel drive is available. Agile moves, attractive styling, and a luxurious cabin are strengths of the G70, but fuel economy and rear seat and cargo space are weaknesses.

First generation Genesis G70

The G70 is a compact sedan with appealing style, agility, and value. It is powered by either a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6. The 2.5 replaced a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the 2024 model year. The 2.0-liter engine was available with a six-speed manual transmission, but that transmission was dropped for 2022. All models now come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and both engines are available with rear- or all-wheel drive.

The cabin combines luxury and technology, though space is tight in the rear seat and trunk. The G70 presents occupants with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, the latter of which replaced an eight-inch unit for the 2022 model year.

Driver-assist features are plentiful. They include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with brake support, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, a safe exit system, and a semi-automated driver-assist system for the highway. Also available are front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and a blind-spot camera that displays a video feed in the instrument cluster when the driver uses a turn signal.
