First generation Hyundai Elantra Hybrid
When Hyundai introduced the seventh-generation Elantra in 2021, the company added the first hybrid drivetrain to the compact sedan's lineup. Its sleek, modern design is shared with the non-hybrid Elantra, and while the cabin isn't exactly upscale, it is well thought-out with effective space for front and rear passengers. The Elantra Hybrid launched with two trim levels, and the entry-level Blue not only offered the best fuel efficiency, but it also came with an extensive standard equipment list that included items like heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a Bose® audio system. Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of advanced driver-assist systems also came standard on all variants.
The Elantra Hybrid has a hybrid drivetrain featuring a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, sending power to the front wheels. Unlike many rival hybrid models, the Elantra features a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is more responsive than the typical continuously variable transmission (CVT). While performance is adequate for daily driving, fuel efficiency is excellent. The Elantra Hybrid Blue gets an EPA-estimated 54 mpg combined.
