The 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is fully redesigned this model year. With its sleek exterior and remade cabin, the Range Rover Sport is positioned in the Land Rover lineup above the smaller Evoque and below the mighty Range Rover (the one minus “Sport” in its name). There are four choices of engine, including a pair of turbocharged six-cylinder mild hybrids, a turbo six-cylinder plug-in hybrid, and a storming twin-turbo V8.
What truly sets the Range Rover Sport apart from many rivals is off-road capability. It can venture places that would leave many competitors stranded thanks to features like an air suspension, standard four-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, and driver-adjustable traction control modes. Granted, some competitors like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE have better driving manners on paved surfaces.
The interior features a 13.1-inch touchscreen and tech touches like wireless smartphone charging, navigation, wireless charging, and an available Meridian audio system.
Sleek styling: The sleek Range Rover Sport has a shape that’s equally elegant and full of attitude. From its ultra-slim headlights to its flush-mounted door handles and dual exhaust outlets poking out from the rear bumper, this is a head-turning luxury SUV.
Powertrain choice: With no fewer than four engine choices, there is a powertrain for all types of Land Rover customer. True, the 523-hp twin-turbo V8 is the performance hero of the range. Though even the standard 355-hp mild hybrid six-cylinder is a compelling choice. The EPA-estimated 51 miles of EV range
All-terrain capability: Like its forebears, the Range Rover Sport has off-road capabilities that many rival SUVs don’t come close to matching. How many owners will actually take it off paved roads, well, that depends how comfortable they are scaling boulders in a vehicle costing this much money.
On-road agility: The Range Rover Sport excels off-road and dares to venture where many of its competitors simply can’t. But the same technology and equipment that makes it good off-road also compromises its on-road behavior. It’s still nice, but competitors like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE offer more comfort and maneuverability in town.
