Zippy subcompact crossover
Mazda is well-known for taking the mundane and making it fun, and this continues with its resident subcompact crossover, the 2016 Mazda CX-3. This tiny crossover has respectable power for its size, as its 2.0L four-cylinder engine delivers 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. But where the CX-3 shines is its surprisingly agile handling. Its suspension does a great job in the corners while the steering system delivers excellent feedback to the driver, making it a joy to zip through curvy back roads.

5 reasons to buy the 2016 Mazda CX-3
1. Balance powertrain
The 2016 Mazda CX-3 won’t overwhelm anyone with its 2.0L engine that delivers 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. However, with a curb weight of just 2,809 pounds, this is plenty of power to zip it to 60 mph in just 8.5 seconds. This powertrain also delivers nice balance, thanks to EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 29 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined with front-wheel drive.
Opt for all-wheel drive, and these numbers dip slightly to 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.2. Surprisingly nimble
Generally, subcompact crossovers are not overly inspiring to drive. Fortunately, Mazda is known for its ability to bring any vehicle into the brand’s “zoom-zoom” pack. It did so with the CX-3, giving it a tight and responsive steering and suspension system that keeps it planted in the corners while delivering excellent steering and suspension feedback to you in the driver’s seat. And it does all this without compromising comfort too much.
3. Peaceful cabin
Smaller vehicles tend to end up with a bit more road noise than you may like. Mazda did a great job with sound absorption in the chassis and sound deadening in the CX-3’s cabin. This helps keep the 2016 Mazda CX-3’s interior surprisingly peaceful, even at highway speeds. You’ll find this makes your commute into the city far more pleasurable.
4. Good-looking interior
Subcompact crossovers often focus more on affordability, and many automakers may add cheaper-looking materials to save on cost. The Mazda CX-3 will have none of that. Its high-quality materials and a sleek, sophisticated dashboard are sure to please you. A standard seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and optional digital speedometer further highlight the upscale-looking dash.
5. Plenty of features and options
Again cutting against the grain of the typical subcompact crossover, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 comes well-equipped with a long list of standard features. On top of the earlier-mentioned seven-inch touchscreen, this small crossover is sure to please your more discerning side with its standard rearview camera, BluetoothⓇ connectivity with streaming audio, cruise control, power windows and locks, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, keyless ignition, and more. If you want even more features, its higher trims include amenities like blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, a six-speaker audio system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, suede seat inserts, Bose audio, automatic climate control, and more.
