Fourth generation Mini Cooper
The newest Mini Cooper is a technology showcase, featuring a twin-scroll turbocharged engine from parent company BMW with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as the only powertrain available. Certain trademark Mini features like the large round center-dash infotainment center are still there, but driver information is presented through a head-up display above the dash.
The Cooper is available in a two-door hatchback configuration or as a four-door hatchback for easier access to the back seats. Lovers of fresh air and sunshine can also choose a two-door convertible with a power canvas top. The Cooper convertible trades the hatchback for a small trunk.
Inside, the tech-forward Cooper offers wireless device charging and smartphone integration, as well as heated front seats and steering wheel. The 9.4-inch OLED center display handles speed, tachometer, and infotainment/climate functions. Vescin leather-free upholstery made from recycled materials is standard.

Third generation Mini Cooper
The third-generation Mini Cooper was larger in every dimension than the model it replaced, making it more comfortable for American buyers than previous Coopers. In this generation, the basic Cooper was delivered with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, paired with a six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
This generation of Cooper was available as a two-door hatchback, four-door hatchback, or as a two-door convertible with a small trunk.
Inside, the third-gen Cooper retained all the traditional cues of the preceding cars, including a large, round display placed in the center of the dash. Within that round display is a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen or an optional 8.8-inch display with GPS navigation. When new, buyers could specify standard or sport seats, contrasting interior colors, and different materials for upholstery, giving every Cooper a personalized design.
