Mild to wild, the 2014 Lancer covers it all
The compact car scene has transformed from offering only cheap cars that don’t cost much to operate to offering more performance-oriented models. The 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer fits this mold but also breaks it by offering two performance models to meet your needs. Its powertrains range from the relatively timid 152-hp 2.0L and 168-hp 2.4L to the hotter 237-hp turbo 2.0L and the downright exciting 291-hp 2.0L in Evolution models. Whatever your powertrain needs are, the 2014 Lancer has the model for you.

5 reasons to buy the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer
1. Huge performance in two flavors
The 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer may be a compact sedan, but it’s more than that. It also has two performance models that will excite your inner motorhead. If you want the peak in performance, opt for the Lancer Evolution (Evo, for short) and enjoy a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 291 hp to a dual-clutch transmission and out to all four wheels for a 4.5-second zero-to-60 time. Want something more timid? The Ralliart model detunes the 2.0L engine to 237 hp and eliminates all-wheel drive, but it still delivers an exciting 5.8-second sprint to 60 mph.
2. Balanced powertrains
While performance makes the Mitsubishi Lancer famous, its lower-level powertrains offer much more balance for the daily commuter. The standard 2.0L four-cylinder engine delivers a decent 148 hp through a standard manual transmission or optional CVT. This powertrain rings in with EPA-estimated fuel-economy ratings of 24 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined with the manual transmission.
The Lancer GT gets a 2.4L with 168 hp and a standard manual transmission or an optional CVT that combine to deliver a 7.7-second zero-to-60 time and EPA-estimated fuel economy numbers of 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. So, if you prefer balance over raw power, you have two options with the 2014 Lancer.3. Good handling
The 2014 Lancer also delivers in the corners in certain trim levels, starting at the GT trim level, which includes a sport-tuned suspension. However, if you want the pinnacle of agility, the Ralliart and Evolution models are the way to go. These models, while not equal in handling — the Evo is slightly better in the corners — are sure to satisfy all your corner-carving needs.
4. Versatile sportback model
You may mostly know the 2014 Lancer as a sedan, but it also has a hatchback model known as the Lancer Sportback. This body gives you 13.8 cu-ft of cargo room with the rear seats upright, 1.5 cu-ft more than the sedan’s trunk. However, its biggest benefit comes when you fold down the rear seats and expose its crossover-like 46.6 cu-ft of cargo space.
5. Strong looks
Compact sedans can get a little vanilla with their styling, but Mitsubishi has strived to ensure the Lancer stands out. Its shark-like snout gives it a unique look, while its clean body lines and chunky proportions give it a sense of uniqueness. And when you upgrade to the Evo or Ralliart models, you get even more aggressive-looking body kits, accents, and wheels to make this sedan really stand out.
