Fourth generation Mitsubishi Outlander
When the redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander arrived for the 2022 model year, it represented a significant improvement over the outgoing version. Sharing a platform with its Nissan Rogue cousin, the new Outlander was slightly larger, translating to a more spacious cabin with more room for second-row passengers. However, the third row is one of the tightest in the industry. With its updates in the 2025 model year, the Outlander gains bold new styling, a new 12.3-inch touchscreen with an improved infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
The Mitsubishi received a larger, more powerful engine with the new generation, but it still feels underpowered, delivering mediocre acceleration. That said, the Outlander has a comfortable, quiet ride, and it handles relatively well for a three-row SUV, especially with the suspension updates for 2025.

Third generation Mitsubishi Outlander
The introduction of the third-generation Outlander brought new style and interior features, but the compact SUV remained the same size in every dimension. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the addition of a third row, an unusual feature for a compact SUV. However, third-row passengers shouldn't expect much legroom. A 6.1-inch touchscreen display was available at launch and became standard in 2017, and customers could opt for the 710-watt Rockford Fosgate premium sound system. A few years after the introduction of the third generation, Mitsubishi refreshed the styling once again and offered a slightly larger display screen with navigation.
All but the GT trim received an updated version of the brand’s 2.4-liter engine with a slightly lower power rating but improved fuel economy. The GT had a similar story, getting less power but better fuel efficiency.
