Fifth generation Ram 1500
This generation of Ram 1500 rolled into dealerships beginning with the 2019 model year. A substantial midcycle redesign means the 2025 Ram 1500 is not only staying current with rival trucks, it’s raising the bar once again when it comes to creature comforts and ride quality.
One thing missing from the 2025 models is the long-serving Hemi® V8, though its return has already been confirmed by Ram’s leadership. For now, the Ram 1500 is available with a choice of two turbocharged inline-six engines—420 horsepower in standard format and 520 hp in high-output tune. The V8 may have temporarily ridden off into the sunset, but performance isn’t an issue. Even the standard rear-wheel-drive Ram 1500 needs only a little more than 5 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60 mph. A mild hybrid V6 engine serves as the base drivetrain, positioned below the turbo six-cylinders.
The 2025 Ram 1500 offers eight trims: Tradesman, Bighorn, Warlock, Laramie, Rebel, RHO, Limited, and Tungsten. The Tungsten is a new addition for the 2025 model year and comes packed with features like hands-free driving assist, massaging front seats, a 23-speaker stereo, a 14.4-inch touchscreen, a front passenger entertainment screen, and much more. Despite the infotainment system’s large touchscreen, it can feel dated and have slow response times.
Model highlights
Excellent ride quality
Upscale interior design and materials
Strong acceleration
Luxurious (and pricey) upper trims
Ample passenger space
Lots of interior storage nooks and crannies
Fourth generation Ram 1500
The fourth generation of the Ram 1500 brought with it a new independent rear suspension that provided leading levels of suspension comfort. It also meant the Ram didn’t have the ultimate towing capacity of some rivals with stouter leaf-sprung rear suspensions. Still, for many truck shoppers, the Ram provided more than enough hauling and towing capability paired with exceptional ride quality.
During its 10-year lifespan, this version of the Ram 1500 was routinely updated to keep pace with competitors like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado. This included increasingly powerful V8 engines, the addition of a turbocharged diesel V6, upgraded tech touches like larger touchscreens with smartphone connectivity, and even more luxurious cabins in the premium trims.
