5 reasons to buy the 2014 Smart Fortwo
1. Tiny footprint
This goes beyond the typical subcompact car. It’s a tiny two-seater that’s great for city driving. It’s so small, in fact, that it can park in spots that other compact cars could only dream of. With a total length of just under nine feet, it’s a surprisingly practical option that can fit into those partial spots between cars.
2. Plenty of space for two
The total footprint of the Smart Fortwo might be small but there’s a decent amount of space in the two seats. You and your passenger get 41.2 inches of legroom and there’s 39.7 inches of headroom. There’s even a small amount of cargo space, measuring 7.8 cu-ft, which is actually quite a lot when you consider the overall size of this subcompact.
3. Characterful design
The boxy shape of the Smart Fortwo makes it stand out. Beyond that, there are plenty of great features that add a bunch of personality to this vehicle. Look out for available colors such as Rally Red and Flame Yellow. The Smart Fortwo also offers huge possibilities with removable body panels. Keep an eye out for ones previous owners might have customized with wraps and other bright colors. As well as the standard hatchback model, there’s also a convertible option too.
4. Frugal performance
That small body also lends itself well to the kind of frugal performance you need for daily life. It has a standard 1.0L engine and can achieve an EPA-estimated 36 mpg combined.
The short wheelbase and firm suspension might make the ride feel a little rough at times but the Smart Fortwo can go the distance when you need it to.5. Electric option
If you’re looking for a quieter option with smooth power delivery, look out for the all-electric option. It has a 55kW electric motor and a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and while not particularly powerful, it’s enough for urban life. This powertrain can achieve an EPA-estimated range of 68 miles on a full charge.
