Generation Overview

As the last model year in the second generation of the BMW X3, the 2017 model did not see many changes as the manufacturer prepared for the launch of the third generation. Launched at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the X3's 2011 model year had the xDrive all-wheel drive powertrain standard, either a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission and either the 28i 2.0L four-cylinder engine or the 35i six-cylinder engine. In 2012, the rear-wheel drive sDrive was added to the lineup. Though the lineup did include a small diesel engine in 2013, which was reported to have exceeded emissions standards during the small diesel scandal. The 2015 model saw a mid-generation facelift, with modified twin circular headlights, redesigned grille and new front and rear bumpers.
