2016 Buick LaCrosse Overview

First released and manufactured by Buick in 2005, the Buick LaCrosse has transformed from a simple midsize car to a full-size luxury vehicle over the years. When the vehicle was first produced from 2005 through 2009, it was marketed as the brands new midsize car, which was meant to replace the Regal and Century models. However, in 2010, the LaCrosse was revamped and released as a premium, full-size sedan, as it continues to be marketed today. The 2016 Buick LaCrosse marked the last year of production for the secondgeneration, with a major transformation anticipated for its 2017 third-generation release.

2016 Buick LaCrosse History

Ever since the Buick LaCrosse began being marketed as a luxury vehicle in 2010, it has seen a great deal of transformation in terms of performance and design. However, some of the main changes the 2016 model year saw compared to previous years included:

  • A brandnew infotainment system
  • A more spacious and quiet interior
  • mproved fuel economy and eAssist feature
  • A bold, eye-catching design
  • Standard power driver seat
  • Some minor changes were also seen in the 2016 release of the LaCrosse, including a new package known as the Sport Touring option with larger wheels and a sharp rear spoiler. The LaCrosse comes in a whopping six trim options, the 1SV, Base, Leather, Premium 1, Premium 2, and Premium 3.

How It Drives

Overall, the 2016 Buick LaCrosse boasts one of the smoothest rides in its class, especially at high speeds. Its four-cylinder powertrain engine runs quietly and smoothly, even when its included auto start/stop system is engaged. And, despite its larger size, the vehicle handles surprisingly well even around tighter corners and turns. Some drivers have complained about a perceived blind spot that obscures rearview visibility, but Buick made up for this by including a standard rearview camera in all trim levels of this vehicle. hile this is a luxury vehicle, drivers who enjoy power and speed will likely be unimpressed by the 3.6 V6 engine. This, in combination with its eAssist electric motor, takes a little bit of the fun out of driving but does result in pretty impressive fuel economy for its size.

Used 2016 Buick LaCrosse Value

Original MSRP for the most basic 2016 Buick LaCrosse trim started at about $38,000 and ran in excess of $40,000, depending on the specific add-ons desired. However, it is possible to now find used versions of this vehicle on the market for under $20,000. In terms of its overall value when compared to similar luxury full-sized vehicles, it performs rather well. Some of the LaCrosses top competitors, for example, include the Lexus ES and the Toyota Avalon. While the Avalon does tend to get better fuel economy due to its hybrid powertrain, the LaCrosse has much more power underthehood. Furthermore, when compared to the Lexus ES, another luxury full-sized vehicle, the LaCrosse offers more reasonable pricing comes with fewer standard features and a less luxurious driving experience.

Design & Performance

Drivers of the 2016 Buick LaCrosse really enjoy its bold and sleek design. Not to mention, all of its trim levels come with impressive details, such as:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Auto-dimming rear view mirrors
  • * 4G LTETM and Wi-Fi capabilities
  • Eight-inch touch screen display

In terms of performance, despite its relatively lackluster power, it is still able to propel from zero to 60 mph in less than seven seconds, which is quite impressive for a car of its size. However, in trim options with eAssist electric motor, the acceleration takes closer to nine seconds. However, with a much higher fuel economy at 25 city/36 highway, this is still pretty impressive.

Powertrain & Engine

The standard engine included with the 2016 Buick LaCrosse is a 3.6L V6 with 304 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. The fuel economy on this option isn't bad for a vehicle of its size, coming in at around 17 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. However, upgraded engine options include a mild hybrid powertrain with eAssist technology that can increase fuel economy by an average of nearly 9 mpg. The combined output in this powertrain option is just 185 horsepower with 172 lb-ft of torque. On all trim levels of this vehicle, front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission come standard. All-wheel drive options are available on some trims, however.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

The sleek exterior of the 2016 Buick LaCrosse really sets it apart from other vehicles in its class, though it's the interior features of this vehicle that really make it stand out. Standard interior features include:

  • A wraparound dashboard
  • Blue contour lights
  • Supportive and adjustable front seats
  • Impressive rear legroom

One area where the 2016 LaCrosse may lack, however, is in its trunk space - with just 13.3 cubic feet of storage.
