This car has been the worst vehicle I've ever owned. I've had to have it towed multiple times because of engine issues, fluid leaking etc.. Currently the vehicle is being worked on to repair the same engine issues it had a year and a half ago. There are MULTIPLE known issues with the 2009 Traverse with there being a GM warranty in place to cover those issues even though the car is so old. Luckily I got the extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle and that has covered non known issues but I've still had to pay a $100 deductible each time. Est. the warranty company has paid more than $10k in repairs on this car since 2015. The 09 GMC Acadia is the sister of the Traverse and has the same issues. I would avoid this car like the plague.
We bought this SUV to carry our kids and grand kids in one vehicle, seats 7. Our grand daughter lives 2 hours away. Our Traverse gets 19-21mpg. We have a 18' boat and our Traverse has a 5400lb towing cap. Our Traverse has a built in DVD player with wireless head phones (that I call a child saver ).
I was previously a Jeep Grand Cherokee Owner. I owned a 2004 and 2006. I decided that as our family was expanding that I needed a larger, roomier car but I wasn't quite ready to go the minivan route. Initially my husband I started looking at the Acadia. I liked that they offered 7 or 8 passenger seating and had all the bells and whistles, BUT I didn't love the sticker price for the model that I wanted. I looked around a bit more and discovered the Traverse. As it's a GM offshoot it came with the same great features as the Acadia with a different look and better pricing. I drove the Traverse and immediately was in love. We ended up buying a 2010 LT2 and love absolutely everything about it. The handling is smooth and the appointments are great. I'm not bothered by the gas mileage as I think it's all about expectations. You're never going to get Honda Civic gas mileage out of a vehicle this large. The only thing that I don't love about the Traverse is that sometimes the pick up can be a bit slow. It might be a good idea for them to offer a V8 model. Other than that, I love it and would definitely recommend it. We've gotten a ton of compliments on the luxurious interior and smooth ride.
